Carroll Bales, Chapter Director
The first meeting
of Chapter “T” Knoxville was held on Tuesday June 28, 1988 at 7:00 p.m.
at Morrison’s Cafeteria at East Towne Mall. There were fifty-three
people who met to talk about organizing a new Chapter.
Chapter T met on
July 19, 1988 and Charlie Long, Tennessee State Director, challenged the
Chapter as to the purpose and direction of our organization. He then
signed and presented the document which gave Chapter “T” of Knoxville official
status in the GWRRA Organization.
Carroll Bales was
presented as the new Area Representative and he and his wife Pat were given
official Rep. patches.
Earl Householder
was named as an Assistant Area Rep – responsible in the area of Safety
and Rider Education.
Dave Gardner also
was asked to serve as an Assistant.
Frank Powell, agreed
to serve as Treasurer and Dee Powell as Secretary.
Rose Bridges was
selected as the Phone Tree Co-ordinator.
Chapter “T” Knoxville
was organized as a result of a spin-off from Chapter “F” Morristown.
This was done to accommodate those members who live in the Knoxville area.
Some of these members had to ride over a hundred miles round trip to attend
the chapter meetings.
We recognize and
appreciate Chapter “F” as our “Mother” Chapter.
The Chapter design
and logo, by Carroll Bales, was decided and approved by GWRRA as
“Smokey Mountain Wing Riders”. Orange was chosen as the Chapters
official color.
